My Story
I am Rob Stephenson. I’m a Husband, Father, Son, Friend, Cyclist, DJ, Public Speaker, Social Entrepreneur and I’m Bipolar. I’ve lived and worked with this condition for over 30 years. Along the way I’ve learnt to manage my mental illness by becoming intentional about taking care of my wellbeing. But for many years, I did this under the radar with only close friends and family knowing about my differences. When I decided to share my story, over 8 years ago, my eyes were opened to how many people suffer with their mental health in silence, due to stigma. This motivated me to become a campaigner to help smash the stigma and commence my mission of helping to inspire the creation of mentally healthy workplaces and societies.
Since then I’ve been on a wonderful adventure with a number of initiatives designed to move this mission forward: from the InsideOut LeaderBoard which celebrated senior leaders who are open about their mental health challenges, to riding the Tour de France route with the MindCycle Tour; a photography exhibition of leaders sharing their mental health stories (this image is take from it); G24 - a global 24 hour mental health summit during Covid; FormScore - a tech start up helping people answer the question “How are you today?” and so much more..
The thing that’s remained constant during my mission is my love of inspiring people through the medium of public speaking. I love it. I’ve conducted approaching 1,000 talks, sharing my story and inspiring people with practical tips on how to proactively mange their mental health and wellbeing.
